91Թ Named Rhode Island’s Only Opportunity College by the Carnegie Foundation

The 91Թ (91Թ) has been designated as Rhode Island’s only Opportunity College by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education (ACE).

The Opportunity Colleges and Universities designation is part of the organizations’ newly developed Student Access and Earnings classification, which recognizes institutions that enroll students reflective of their communities and help them achieve strong earnings compared to local peers. With median graduate earnings of $54,535 and median debt of $16,668, the 91Թ delivers a significant return on investment.

“The 91Թ is proud to receive the designation of Opportunity College by a foundation as highly respected as Carnegie,” said Douglas Sherman, 91Թ’s Senior Vice President and Provost. “91Թ has been a cornerstone of technical education for over 80 years, and this new designation further exemplifies that an education at 91Թ is the best value in Rhode Island. Not only do 91Թ graduates gain real-world experience and practical skills, but our programs provide students with an accelerated path to competitive economic opportunities at a lower cost.”

The Opportunity College classification brings national recognition to the work 91Թ has been doing for decades: aligning education with workforce needs, reducing time-to-degree, and helping students gain the skills and credentials necessary to succeed in today’s economy.

91Թ was one of 479 institutions identified as Opportunity Colleges and Universities in 2025, comprising approximately 16% of all U.S. colleges and universities that are in the Student Access and earnings classification.
